For the second edition of the In All Intimacy collection, Henry Jacques opens up a new creative world with Heron Preston and Sabrina Albarello. The designers, artists and fashion icons embark on a journey into the artisanal world of Haute Parfumerie where shared values and aspirations converge. Immerse yourself in their journey and discover the fragrances that narrate their unique story.
MEETING
Henry Jacques first met Heron Preston in Paris at the opening party of the Henry Jacques Montaigne boutique, where he was invited to DJ. Heron Preston is a multifaceted New-York based artist with a background in design. As a designer, art director, and DJ he has made significant contributions to the worlds of fashion and culture.
He founded his own label in 2016. Two years later he met Sabrina, and fell for her personality and vision, which helped him shape the women’s division of the brand. Their work is deeply inspired by sustainability and technology and inherently speaks to the next wave of culture, fashion, innovation, environmental responsibility and human impact. Inspired by Heron and Sabrina’s creativity and contemporary vision, Henry Jacques found it intriguing to tell their story in a way that had never been done before: through fragrance.
BUILDING OUT
Anne-Lise Cremona invited Heron and Sabrina to join her in Paris to start what will be their first project as a couple. The crafting process began with a series of intimate meetings in Paris, followed by extended conversations between Paris and New York. During those consultations, Henry Jacques witnessed the couple’s alchemy and listened to their confidences to translate their love and personalities into perfume.
Knowing each other for a very long time, they’ve learned each other. “We can finish each other sentences, we sort of become one, in a way” said Heron, smiling. “Hopefully this will continue, and just becomes deeper and richer”. As their perfumes ? One may ask…
Deeply intimate and instinctive, building a fragrance was a unique learning experience for Heron and Sabrina.
They were impressed by the realm of possibility Haute Parfumerie allows: “you can just keep going designing something new, or tweaking it” declared Heron, thrilled. “How many things you can do with nature without altering, it is so inspiring” added Sabrina.
Heron and Sabrina's journey took them to Henry Jacques' laboratory in Provence, where they immersed themselves in the brand's artisanal heritage. Located amidst a vineyard, and newly opened in 2023, the laboratory houses thousands of compositions, the latest technology, and a flourishing rose field. They discovered a unique place where modernity meets tradition with no compromise, where creativity and science complete one another to give birth to the most stunning masterpieces.
By wearing their perfume, they also understood why Haute Parfumerie Vivante is the house’s signature. “You discover how alive perfume is, it evolves over time, blends in your DNA, your skin type. On someone else it has totally different meaning!” said Heron, surprised. From raw materials to wearing experience, “all things are coming from nature. Nature is the best designer.” he concluded.
A STORY IN A BOTTLE
Wonderfully, both their personalities and their complicity were captured in their perfumes. Despite sharing three key ingredients, their fragrances are distinct yet complementary, mirroring the balance and connection in their relationship.
Heron’s fragrance starts with a clean, crisp burst of freshness from the brazilian palmarosa. A hint of rose, bergamot and spicy notes balance the fresh spark. Then dry notes from hay and tonka bean’s almond notes warm up the fragrance. Vanilla and benzoin add leathery and smoky notes and deepen the fragrance. Warm, sparkling, open, then deep and complex, Heron’s fragrance is “very special, very different, very Heron” asserted Sabrina.
Sabrina’s fragrance, on the contrary, has a warm and enveloping opening with spicy notes of cinnamon and cardamom. Then tonka bean and clove counterbalance the comfy sensuality of the clean, musky notes of delicate white flowers. Vanilla, benzoin and deep, rich woody notes give elegance and coziness to the fragrance. The fragrance is soft and strong, dual, as Sabrina’s personality: “She makes me feel safe but she can be fierce” said Heron.
Perfume’s power to evoke is immeasurable. A single scent can awaken memories and stir up the deepest emotions. Perfume is a story and the In All Intimacy collection tries to live up to this statement, striving to share everything that is captured in an olfactive portrait.
The creation of these « portraits » or Sur-Mesure perfumes are the Maison's signature, infusing and driving every one of its collections. This rare expertise has led to countless encounters, conversations and creations throughout the years; and some so special that they deserve to be shared with the world.
A STORY
WORTH BEING SHARED
Creating their own perfume was about sharing a piece of themselves with the world and thus forging new connections. “Sharing is this sort of special experience that links. It creates a bond, a union between yourself and your community, a sort of closeness.” said Heron.
To the couple, building a fragrance with Henry Jacques was also a reminder and an inspiration for their own activity. “This experience has a sort of lasting momentum in my brain.” said Heron. “Care, attention to detail, consistency, staying true to yourself, being authentic…” Heron repeated those words as a mantra learnt by heart.
Heron and Sabrina noticed the rarity of a company like Henry Jacques whose authenticity makes the house forerunner of a high artisanat that is needed, more than ever, in today’s world. Heron and Sabrina hope that sharing these creations will elevate awareness around Haute Parfumerie and highlight the importance of genuinely preserving craftsmanships and quality, nature and people regardless of the industry, especially in a world that frequently overlooks these values.
